The unknown…

“It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going out of your door. You step into the Road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there is no telling where you might be swept off to.” - The Fellowship of the Ring

Bilbo Baggins spoke to Frodo warning him that leaving the road (comfort) means walking now in mystery, uncertainty, the unknown. The unknown is a scary place to be, yet it is often the very place many of us are in. It is frankly the finite life, God has ordained us to be in. Starting Till Glory is a big leap of faith for our little family. Many hours are spent dreaming of what it could be, and many conversations are had late at night reminding ourselves of the unknown. However of one thing we can be certain. Till Glory there is work to be done. We have not made it home yet where we are face to face with our God. And till we arrive at glory, we have been given a task to do. May we be found faithful when the Lord returns.

It is pretty wild to see this dream come to life. Starting a little business was never something I dreamed of, yet here we are, enjoying the wonderful gift of God. So here is the little longer version of how a conversation became a hobby, which became, Lord willing, a means for us to reach the world with the gospel.

After my husband and I got married, we found ourselves in South Georgia. He began to work at a cabinet door shop, where a love for all things wood came to life. It wasn’t long till our dinner table conversations morphed into all that he could build for our little farm house. We wanted some wall decor for our house. So one day my husband grabbed some scrap pieces of wood and made a floating shelf, then another, and another. To see pieces that my husband intentional designed to help this little house we have been called to steward by God brought such joy into my life, not to mention to money we saved. These little wood things continued to come through the front door when he would arrive home from work. There is such beauty found in natural wood and we were slowly beginning to see this.

There is one conversation that will always be sealed in my memory. It was one night after our family worship and we realized how we struggled to remember all the things we said we would pray for. Jake then had an idea to create a wood frame and place some wood on the inside so that we could hang whatever prayer request we had. He came home one day with the piece and I was amazed. It was exactly what we needed - a beautiful piece to remind us to pray.

As months go by we continue to make different things for our home. This hobby then becomes a conversation of starting a business to help raise money for upcoming mission trips, school tuition, and to begin saving for the foreign mission field. We spent a few Saturday’s making product together, visiting a few stores to see if this is something that people would buy, and here we are starting a little business. It is kinda wild to see where God has brought us, yet we will continue to walk through doors trusting God has planned our days.

We feel the danger of walking out of the door of comfortability. The unknown is scary, but we take one step knowing Till Glory there is work to be done.
